Learn more about "Mercy"

Thanks for taking interest in one of our projects. In this side you can take a deeper look into "Mercy"

Would you kill the rabbit?

This is a story about someone struggling to stay true to who they are. Jerry (an ordinary young man) is haunted by his father's disappointment of him as a child, causing inner moral conflict as to how he should behave and what kind of person he should be.

In a world where self-identity can be hard to classify and harder still to discover, this film helps to externalise the inward struggle to find your own self amidst the often crushing pressures of others. Strangers, friends and family alike can influence the decisions we make, with Mercy casting a dark, surrealist lens on what could happen when someone betrays their own morals.

The themes in this film are close to my heart as I have often felt the pressures to behave in ways that would not reflect who I am. Particularly with the growth of social media, it is now incredibly simple to pass judgement on the decisions of others and therefore attempt to influence their behaviour. We hope that Mercy offers a bold, gritty and entertaining perspective on the struggles of staying true to yourself.

Meet some of the crew:

Director: Laurence Jones

"The themes in this film are close to my heart as I have often felt the pressures to behave in ways that would not reflect who I am. Particularly with the growth of social media, it is now incredibly simple to pass judgement on the decisions of others and therefore attempt to influence their behaviour. I hope that Mercy offers a bold, gritty and entertaining perspective on the struggles of staying true to yourself"

Production Designer: Mac Moran

"What I found incredibly compelling about this project is the opportunity to experiment with the more exciting aspects of independent horror. To be able to work with hopefully disturbing visuals and practical VFX"

Producer: James Sabbagh

"After working loosely with Laurence on his previous film, I'm excited to collaborate again but as producer to tell a story of childhood pressure in an engaging Laurence way. Here's the last film I produced, I Love Bagels:"

Cinematographer: Kieran Ford

"Being the cinematographer for this film, I will be visually building this surreal and exciting world to further push my compositional and lighting skills. I can’t wait to work with this talented crew to tell this psychological and enticing story!"

Sound Designer: Raph Dowding-Green

"Laurence has created an amazing story which showcases the reality of pressure in a surrealist way. I'm really looking forward to using more experimental sound design to really enhance the story and the character's experience"
